The promotion of multilingualism also includes subtitles

As part of the promotion of multilingualism in our country, Play Suisse, SRG SSR's streaming platform, offers films in every national language. There are therefore also works from Italian-speaking Switzerland subtitled in German and French (and of course vice versa), which can be enjoyed free of charge by a community that has already exceeded one million subscribers.

It is with a view to ensuring that film projects supported under the Pacte de l'audiovisuel are subtitled in as many national languages as possible, in particular in minority languages, that SRG SSR has decided to extend its support for the Fund for the Promotion of the Italian Language in Swiss Cinema.

The Fund was launched in 2022 by the Ticino Film Commission and counts the Société Suisse des Auteurs (SSA), the Dipartimento dell'educazione, della cultura e dello sport del Cantone Ticino (DECS), the Oertli Foundation and Swisslos/Promozione della Cultura, Cantone dei Grigioni, among its partners.

In addition to dedicated support for the creation of subtitles in other national languages for Swiss films made in Italian and vice versa, the Fund offers other opportunities. For films in Italian, it offers focused support at various stages, from the treatment to the screenplay and the translation of the production dossiers into the national languages. For Swiss works made in French, German or Romansh, on the other hand, which in the original version contain dialogue in Italian, writing and translation assistance can be requested.
