Filming in Ticino for Elisa – Io la volevo uccidere, the new film by the Italian director Leonardo Di Costanzo, ended on Monday, April 7th.
For one week, Mendrisio, Vacallo, Morbio Superiore, and Stabio served as locations for the feature film starring Italian actress Barbara Ronchi (Settembre, Rapito) in the role of Elisa, a well-off young woman imprisoned for 10 years for brutally killing her sister. The cast also includes French actor Roshdy Zem and Ticino actresses Jasmin Mattei and Roberta Fossile.
The film is produced by the Italian company Tempesta with Rai Cinema and the Ticino-based Amka, in co-production with RSI.
The relationship between Tempesta and Ticino is now well-established. As producer Manuela Melissano explains, “It all started years ago with our first film with Amka, and over time this collaboration has intensified, so much so that now we come to shoot in the region more and more often. We feel at home and work well here.” The search for the locations for Elisa was challenging. “Scouting was not easy,” confirms Manuela Melissano, “also because the world of the film has dreamlike traits and is very particular. But after a long process, we are very happy with the locations we found.”
The film’s production involved around sixty people, including cast and crew, with about ten technicians and some extras from Ticino.
Winner of the David di Donatello award for Best New Director with L’intervallo in 2012, Leonardo Di Costanzo also made L’intrusa (2017) and Ariaferma (2021) with Tempesta and Ticino-based Amka.
