A writer and a film crew travelling through Europe in search of that paradise on earth that the ancient Greeks called Arcadia. These are the protagonists of The Age of Magic, a feature film by Belgian director Peter Krüger, known for "N - The Madness of Reasons" (2014), winner of the Ensor Award for Best Film at the Ostend Film Festival, and "Antweerp Central" (2011), awarded the Grand Prize at the Fetival on Films on Art in Montreal. "The Age of Magic" is based on the novel of the same name written by Ben Okri.
After a few days in Poschiavo in the Grisons, the co-production between Belgium (Polar Bear), Switzerland (Cineworx) and the Netherlands (The Film Kitchen) arrived in Ticino. Filming in our region, which ended on 20 June, included the Brissago Islands, Boschetto in Vallemaggia and Rossura in Leventina. The set then moved to Giessbach on Lake Brienz and to Unternseen on Lake Thun. After leaving Switzerland, filming will continue in Belgium until the end of July.
Some fifteen professionals from Ticino took part in the filming in our canton, about ten in all those that took place in Switzerland. In total, between crew and cast, of which the actress Ursina Lardi from Grisons is also a member, some forty people took part in the filming of "The Age of Magic". Lugano-based Central Productions took care of the general organisation of filming in Switzerland on behalf of co-producer Cineworx.
