Filming of “Piercing,” directed by Margherita Ferri, wraps up between Chiasso and Melide

Three inseparable girls and a lip piercing that grants them superpowers. This is the premise of Piercing, the new film directed by Margherita Ferri, director of Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa. Filming, which began in early November in Bologna, wrapped up in recent days in Ticino, where shooting took place over five days in an apartment in Chiasso, on nearby streets, and in the area around the Melide Dam Bridge.

Alongside Beatrice Savignani and Alicia Edogamhe, the film stars Lisa Pires Lima, a young actress from Ticino who trained at Paolo Meneguzzi’s PopMusicSchool and at the Tiziana Tozzi Academy in Rome, and who has already appeared in the cast of Stars, directed by Anna Spacio. Around a dozen Ticino-based professionals worked on the set.

Piercing, which in the words of the Imola-born director aims to “break the conventions of all the genres from which it draws inspiration: Italian post-neorealism, superhero films, science fiction, queer cinema and European auteur cinema”, is produced by the Italian company tempesta in co-production with the Swiss company tellfilm. The two companies have previously collaborated on several films also shot in Ticino (among the most recent Gloria! by Margherita Vicario), and once again have chosen our territory. The film is also supported by the Ticino Film Commission.

“Working with the Ticino Film Commission is always a great pleasure because it really helps us" underlines Katrin Renz, producer for tellfilm. “It is the third time we are working in co-production with tempesta; we have always got along very well and have always shot in Ticino.” “For us, co-production with Switzerland is a wonderful and well-established practice spanning many films”, adds Manuela Melissano, producer for tempesta, “and here in Ticino in particular I feel at home”.
