Ticino Film Commission
18.04.2023 . Call for entries

Three residencies at Casa Pantrovà in Carona dedicated to the writing phase of film projects

The call for entries for the third edition of the competition supported by the City of Lugano has been published. The deadline to participate is the 15th of May.

The City of Lugano's support for screenwriting is once again confirmed, in collaboration with Casa della Letteratura per la Svizzera italiana, Gruppo registi e sceneggiatori della Svizzeraitaliana, Castellinaria, Locarno Film Festival and Ticino Film Commission. Participation in the third edition of the competition, which will award three winners with three artistic residencies at Casa Pantrovà in Carona, is open until 15 May.

Launched in 2021, the project aims to support a crucial stage in the creation of films of all genres and formats: that of writing. The winners of the competition will benefit from a four-week residency (from 31 July to 27 August) and a grant of CHF 3,000 each for the development of a subject, treatment or script version for feature and short fiction films, creative documentaries, animated films, multimedia and transmedia projects. In addition, they will be able to count on important benefits such as unlimited access to screenings at the Locarno Film Festival. At least one of the winning Italian-language projects will also be chosen to participate in the first phase of the Locarno Residency and at least one of the guests of Casa Pantrovà will be selected to participate in the Pitching Day organised by the Ticino Film Commission during the 76th Locarno Film Festival.

In addition to the two residencies dedicated to the writing of scripts in Italian, since last year, in memory of Lisa Tetzner and Kurt Kläbler - a couple of illustrious children's writers who built Casa Pantrovà in 1936 and then donated it for the benefit of the community - a specific residency has been set up for the writing of scripts dedicated to works for children and/or young people, preferably in Italian, but also open to other national languages. The winner of this specific residency will have the opportunity to present their project as part of the 36th edition of CastellinariaInternational Young Film Festival, which will be held from 18 to 25 November.

The Ticino Film Commission supports the screenwriting stage with this and other initiatives in the audiovisual field. It is from the development of strong stories on paper that the best films are created, and it is by accompanying this delicate stage of film creation that the Film Commission forges strong ties with future writers and film production companies.

During the month of August, two meetings will be organised to share the ongoing experience among guests, programme organisers and the public.

Applications must be completed and sent no later than 15 May 2023, only by email to cultura@lugano.ch in the form of a single PDF document (maximum 10MB).
