Ponte via Interlenghi Chiasso

Chiasso

Ponte via Interlenghi Chiasso

The Interlenghi bridge is a perfect reflection to try to understand Chiasso’s history, a border town par excellence which expanded greatly during the 60’s and 70s, an era still remembered as Chiasso’s Golden Age.

For someone who is not from the area, Chiasso (8000 inhabitants) seems to be much bigger than it actually is. This is due to many buildings that were built in the 60’s and 70’s, when Chiasso was supposed to remain that very important economical area. Things didn’t go as predicted and as we look down from the top of the Interlenghi bridge, the chaotic industrial setting is paradoxal with the lack of activity.

In the distance, the size of some buildings, but also their state of decadence, tells us a glorious past full of hopes and dreams.
