Cable car of Cardada

Cardada Cimetta, the place to be

The valley station of the cable car to Cardada is located in Orselina, nearby the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso. The cable-cars, holding 40 people, as well as the valley and mountain stations were designed by Mario Botta, the renowned Ticino architect. Thanks to the cable-cars' tear shape and windows on all sides down to the floor, their overall appearance is light and transparent. They are also easily accessible to guests with motor disabilities and families with baby buggies.

The valley station in Orselina boasts an unusual layout that emphasises the contrast between stones (slabs from the Maggia valley) forming a solid basis and the glass cement elements above (a translucent lantern). The mountain station is more modest in terms of concept and dimensions, and is designed to be more plain, as a one-storey "hall" for boarding or leaving the cable-cars.

The two-seater chairlift takes you up from Cardada to Cimetta. Suspended parallel to the driving axle, you can enjoy the incomparable view even while travelling.  From here, you can simultaneously see the lowest point (Lake Maggiore) and the highest point (Dufour peak of Monte Rosa) in Switzerland!
