The church of Santa Maria d'Ongero, a building of Baroque architecture (inaugurated in 1624), is located in the woods near Carona, a district of Lugano. It can be discovered along a Via Crucis (Way of the Cross), of which only the chapels but not the frescoes remain. It can be reached via a forest road. From the area in front of the church entrance, you can see the hillside where the old village of Barbengo is located and the road to Agra and Collina d'Oro.
Inside, a Presentation of Jesus at the Temple is painted above the entrance, while the vault, richly stuccoed, has small windows that create magical atmospheres with the sun's rays.
