Inaugurated in 2005 on the initiative of the Max Huber-Kono Foundation, the museum has been a public institution of the Municipality of Chiasso since 2010. Its mission is to spread the knowledge of graphics, design, photography and contemporary visual communication.
Designed by architects Durisch and Nolli, the M.A.X. museum is characterised by vast white and neutral spaces. The façade consists of an immense translucent window that illuminates the district at night like a sort of large lantern. On the square in front of the entrance is a monumental aluminium sculpture by Max Huber, the graphic artist and designer to whom the museum is dedicated.
