The Museo Casorella, which houses the prestigious art collections of the City of Locarno, including works by Jean Arp and other masters of the 20th-century avant-garde, is located within a charming building dating back to the late 16th century.
Before entering the museum, visitors are greeted by a delightful outdoor courtyard, where the foundations of a square tower, part of the ancient extension of the Visconti Castle, can be seen. The façade, decorated with terracotta-colored bricks, is embellished with 19th-century busts of famous literary figures.
Behind the main entrance lies a charming garden, adorned with sculptures by Max Bill, adding a touch of contemporary art to the undeniable historical beauty of the place. The entrance to the noble floor is also accessible via an external staircase leading to a façade elegantly decorated with stuccoes, likely the work of Giovanni Battista Serodine, brother of the renowned painter.
In addition to the fascinating permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts the prestigious Sala d'Onore, entirely frescoed, used for celebrations and conferences of great cultural significance.
