After winning the Audience Award in January at the Solothurn Film Festival, the film Becaària by Ticino-based director Erik Bernasconi (Cinédokké, Savosa, Cineworx Distribution) has won another major award: the German-Language Film Critics’ Award at the 35th edition of the Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg–Vorpommern in Schwerin, Germany, which concluded a few days ago.
According to the official statement, what impressed the jury of FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics, which awarded the prize, was the film’s understated narrative style and atmospheric imagery, through which the main character’s evolution is brought to the screen in a delicate, authentic, and nuanced way, supported by an excellent cast of actors.
Based on the novel by Giorgio Genetelli (Gabriele Capelli Editore), Becaària is a coming-of-age story set during a summer in Ticino in the 1970s that will prove pivotal in the life of the protagonist, 16-year-old Mario.
The film will be released in German-speaking Switzerland on August 26, in French-speaking Switzerland on September 2, and in Italian-speaking Switzerland on September 16 2026.
