LOCARNO REGION FILM FUND
The Locarno Region Film Fund is an instrument established to encourage investment in the territory of the Locarno urban area (hereafter referred to as the “territory of reference”) by independent audiovisual production companies, whether based in Switzerland or abroad. By “territory of the Locarno urban area,” we mean the municipalities of Ascona, Brione sopra Minusio, Brissago, Cugnasco-Gerra, Gambarogno, Locarno, Losone, Minusio, Muralto, Ronco sopra Ascona, Tenero-Contra.
The Fund allows production companies to receive a credit for direct expenses incurred with companies, facilities, services, and professionals located in the territory of reference during the course of filming.
The Fund also has the secondary purpose of promoting the image of the territory.
THE REGION
The Locarno region, overlooking Lake Maggiore and surrounded by mountains and hills, is an area that brings together an extraordinary variety of landscapes within a small number of kilometres. The centre of Locarno, with its Piazza Grande, is strongly connected to international cinema thanks to the Locarno Film Festival. Just a short distance away, Ascona stands out for its elegant lakeside promenade with a Mediterranean charm, while Monte Verità offers a unique setting combining nature, architecture, and cultural history. The Brissago Islands feature subtropical, almost exotic vegetation.
The area also offers modern infrastructure such as the National Youth Sports Centre in Tenero, and unfolds as a continuous sequence of villages immersed in nature between lake and hillside. Alongside this, there are modern, bourgeois, and residential urban environments, as well as rural landscapes with cultivated fields and agricultural infrastructure.
